Plans to preserve Walton County’s ag history to be presented at BOC meeting

A group working to revive the efforts of the Agricultural Heritage Commission and preserve Walton County’s rich agricultural heritage is making a pitch to the Walton County Board of Commissions at the February meeting tonight, Feb. 7, 2017. The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at the old Historic Courthouse in Monroe

The public is invited and organizers of the effort to preserve the agricultural history is urging the public to attend and find out more about the plans.

“My dad was once a part of this dream. Please consider attending the meeting to find out more about the vision,” organizer Julie Annn Wallo said in a Facebook post. “Agriculture was once a huge part of Walton County’s history. The huge mills are a testament to the importance of cotton among other crops.”

Wallo said the Agricultural Heritage Commission is looking to expand Walton Counties historical importance with a vision that a “Heritage Park would include active recreation such as gardening, walking trails, work shops and tours. In closing, there are people who are willing to donate equipment time, and labor, as well as buildings and materials to this important cause.”

She is asking the public to attend the meeting to learn about these plans. Rick Holder is on the agenda to make the presentation. The following is a full agenda of the meeting.
