Loganville Fire Chief and Assistant City Manager Danny Roberts said the city soon will be appointing an assistant fire chief to take control of the city’s fire department. This comes after the Loganville City Council voted last week to appoint Roberts as city manger to replace outgoing City Manager Bill Jones who is retiring at the end of February.
“I will still be the fire chief as well, at least for the moment, but he will take over much of the duties,” Roberts said.
Roberts will take up his appointment as city manager effective March 1. Roberts was appointed assistant city manager last year and has served in the dual role ever since. Roberts said he was yet ready to name the person likely to be nominated assistant fire chief, but expected the announcement to be coming soon.
The Loganville Fire Department was established in 1946 as a completely volunteer fire department. It now has three fire stations with 21 full-time and 15 part-time employees as well as four administrative staff members.
When he takes on the position of city manager, Roberts will be paid $96,100 per year.
