Former Loganville Mayor Gene Matthews passes away

Former mayor and Loganville Councilman Gene Matthews passed away earlier today. Officials with the City of Loganville extended their sympathies to the friends and family of Gene Matthews.

Matthews was a member, deacon and former Sunday School teacher of Corinth Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a former Mayor and City Councilman for the City of Loganville and a Board Member Emeritus with the Walton County Christian Learning Center. He was one of the former mayors of Loganville who was able to join current Mayor Dan Curry in September 2014 for the opening of the Historic Rock Gym.

Funeral arrangements for the former mayor have been made. They are as follows.

Visitation Friday, June 10 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Scot Ward Funeral Home at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, 699 American Legion Rd., Conyers, Ga. 30012

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 11 at 12 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. prior to the service at church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Walton Co. Christian Learning Center, PO Box 678, Monroe, Ga. 30655
